Ahmedabad: England’s Joe Root scored a half-century in the first match of the ICC World Cup 2023 against New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday.

Root came out to bat first after New Zealand won the toss and decided to bowl. England were in a difficult position after losing three early wickets, but Root took charge of the team and scored a half-century to help England recover.

Root completed his half-century in just 57 balls, hitting two fours and a six. He was eventually dismissed for 57, but his innings helped England post a total of 250 runs in 50 overs.

Root’s half-century is a positive sign for England, who are the defending champions of the World Cup. Root is one of England’s most experienced players, and his innings will give the team confidence going into the rest of the tournament.
